Southern California might be the best place in the country to own an overland trailer. In one long weekend, you can go from coastal fog to high desert, pine forest and sand washes. That same range makes SoCal hard on trailers: heat, dust, washboard and rocky climbs, sometimes all on the same trip.
L.O.B.O. Adventure Trailers are built to order in Corona, right where the 91 meets the 15 in Riverside County. This guide is for SoCal buyers who want a trailer that fits local terrain, and who'd rather see it in person than buy from photos.
Why Buying Locally Makes Sense
You can see it, touch it and crawl under it
Photos don't show weld quality, how the drawers slide, or what hangs lowest under the frame. Seeing a trailer in person is the best way to judge it. Our shop is at 803 E. Parkridge Ave., Corona, CA 92879, open weekdays from 9am to 4pm by appointment.
You talk to the people who build it
With a built-to-order trailer, you work out your setup directly with the builder. That means your tent, awning, fridge, power and kitchen, all sized to your tow vehicle and your trips.
Pickup is a drive, not a shipping project
For buyers across Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire and San Diego, Corona is a reasonable drive. That makes the walkaround and the handoff easy to plan.
What Southern California Terrain Asks of a Trailer
Desert heat and long, dry miles
Desert trips in places like Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Mojave come with heat and long stretches without water. Water capacity and fridge performance matter more here than almost anywhere. Every L.O.B.O. Alpha-platform trailer carries a 35-gallon baffled stainless steel water tank with a 12V, 3 GPM pump. The Alpha Pro comes with an IceCo dual-zone fridge. You can also see the IceCo 76VL Pro dual-zone fridge on its own.
Washboard and sand washes
Washboard roads are where cheap trailers fall apart: fasteners back out, cabinets rattle loose and gear gets thrown around. Suspension is your first line of defense. L.O.B.O. trailers ride on Cruisemaster CRS2 independent suspension with 5 inches of listed travel. Each wheel moves on its own.
Rocky climbs and twisted-up trails
Mountain routes and old mining roads twist the truck and trailer at different angles. A Lock N' Roll 360° articulating hitch lets the trailer move freely without binding. With 22.5 inches of listed clearance, the trailer has room to clear rocks and ruts.
Sun and wind at camp
Shade is basic survival gear in the desert. A 270° awning covers the side and back of the trailer, where most of camp life happens. The Alpha Pro comes with a 270° awning. The Alpha Pro Max steps up to the Taruca Rogue 270° tri-color awning, which the Pro Max page describes as high wind-rated. See awnings and shade options in our overland gear and accessories collection.
Power for off-grid nights
Most SoCal backcountry sites have no hookups. Every Alpha has REDARC Rogue power management with shore, solar and tow charging, so the batteries charge while you drive. The Alpha Pro adds a Renogy 200 amp lithium battery, and the Pro Max adds a REDARC 2000W Pro Series inverter.
Trip Ideas for a New SoCal Trailer Owner
Every trip should start with checking current conditions, closures, fire restrictions and camping rules with the agency that manages the land. Here's how we suggest working up to bigger trips:
- A shakedown close to home. Pick an easy, established campsite within a couple of hours of home. Load the trailer the way you would for a real trip, practice backing up, and run every system: water, power, fridge, tent and awning.
- A desert weekend. Anza-Borrego is a classic SoCal trip for overlanders. Go in the cooler months, carry more water than you think you'll need, and air down on soft sand if the conditions call for it.
- A mountain trip. Forest roads in the local mountains bring shade, cooler nights and rockier climbs. It's a good chance to get to know your hitch and clearance.
- A multi-day route. Routes like the Mojave Road through the Mojave National Preserve are where water capacity, organized storage and reliable power really pay off. Travel with another vehicle and plan for being self-reliant.
Choosing Your Setup
All three L.O.B.O. models share the same chassis, suspension and structure. The difference is how much gear comes installed:
- Alpha: the platform for overlanders who already own quality gear and want a trailer built to carry it. It lists a 1,750 lb dry weight and 285 lb tongue weight.
- Alpha Pro: our most popular configuration. It comes with a four-person rooftop tent, 270° awning, dual-zone fridge, 200Ah lithium power and a Joolca hot water heater.
- Alpha Pro Max: the fully upgraded build, with an OVS XD Everest hard-shell tent, Taruca Rogue awning, REDARC 2000W inverter and Dometic stainless stove and sink.
Before your visit, check your tow vehicle's towing capacity, payload and tongue weight rating. The Alpha platform's estimated loaded weight is 2,700 lb.
